Clean Plate specialises in providing early learning settings with healthy lunch ideas for kids, nutritious menu plans, toddler meal ideas and healthy snack recipes for under-fives.
We are what we eat, and this is no less true for children. It’s in these early years parents and caregivers have the opportunity to lay a good nutritional foundation and establish good eating habits in under-fives.

Registrations close on Friday, 9th August, 5 pm
We’ve got a great opportunity for a limited number of lucky early childhood centres based in the Howick Local Board Area. Clean Plate, in collaboration with Love Food Hate Waste, Gardens4Health and Compost Collective, funded by the Howick Local Board Area, will be again delivering the CLEAN PLATE LESS WASTE Project - aiming to reduce food waste in early learning settings. Participating ECEs will get a Clean Plate menu, composting systems suited to specific needs, ongoing support and resources, all for FREE! This round of the project will run from end-August/19 until end-Nov/19. To find out more about the CLEAN PLATE LESS WASTE Project and how to register your interest, please click on the link below.
Childhood obesity is rising
Sadly, as a society we are letting our children down. The NZ Health Survey 2016/17 found that one in eight Kiwi children is obese. Worse, the child obesity rate increased from 8% in 2006 to 12% in 2017.
Together, we can fix this
But it doesn’t have to be this way. One of the most effective places to establish good eating habits is in the controlled environment of early childhood education centres. Unfortunately, a study conducted by Growing Up New Zealand found that while 82% of childcare services had a written nutrition policy, many were not comprehensive or were difficult to action. The study also found common practices may encourage children to eat too much or develop preferences for unhealthy food.
