Are you planning to get a new worm farm at your early learning centre but not sure how to set it up or maintain it? Or perhaps you already have a worm farm, but it has been neglected for a wee while and nobody knows how to get it up and running again?

Would you also like the children to learn how worm farms work, how to care for the worms and how they can help us look after our environment?

Worms in a worm farm

Then this is the session for you!

Our Clean Plate Less Waste Worm Farm is a fun and hands-on session designed especially for early learning settings on a journey to become more environmentally-friendly.

Worm farms provide exciting and ongoing learning opportunities, from the wonders of the natural environment to values such as responsibility and kindness, as children learn to care for their new wiggly friends.

Worm farms also help reduce waste by composting food, paper and cardboard scraps, and produce rich fertiliser for the plants in your garden.

CPLW Worm Farm Session includes:

  • Fun facts about worms and how to look after them;

  • Interactive Game - Foods’ likes & dislikes;

  • Setting up the new worm farm (or getting your existing one up and running again), adding the worms to their new “house” and feeding them.

Who’s the session for?

CPLW Worm Farm is best suited to preschoolers and is available to early learning settings, playgroups and community groups across Auckland. The session also helps teachers, cooks and other centre staff to understand how the compost system works, so everyone can feel at ease and ensure its continued use and maintenance. Parents & carers are welcome to attend.

How long is the session?

The session is 1 1/2 hours long, including mat time (Fun Facts & Interactive Game), Worm Farm set-up, and question time for staff/ whanau.

How much does it cost?

CPLW Worm Farm Session costs $250*, including the set-up of one standard 2-tier worm farm (for bigger worm farms, such as Hungry Bins, we’d ask you to assemble the system beforehand).

*Additional costs may apply depending on your specific needs (for example, community-wide event, setting up more than one worm farm or if you’d like us to arrange worm farm purchase and delivery for you).

Sometimes, we have funding available from specific Local Boards across Auckland, which can help offset some of the cost. To find out more, including if we have any funding available at present for your Local Board area, please contact us by following the ‘Contact Us’ link below.
